Halifax Developments and Crombie REIT have recently joined a prestigious group called BOMA BESt. This certification is proof of our commitment to provide our clients the best in class green standard for the Canadian Commercial Real Estate Industry. This Program is designed to ensure that we annually review our environmental standards, sustainability, and lower our carbon footprint. We welcome our clients to the BOMA BESt family.

Important News for Our Clients
BOMA BESt is the next evolution of BOMA Canada’s Go Green program. BESt stands for Building Environmental Standards, and represents the direction of the commercial real estate industry in Canada and BOMA Canada’s role in providing the mechanisms for common practices across the industry.

With four possible levels of certification, users can progress through the program and continually use the framework of the Go Green Best Practices and the Go Green Plus assessment to improve environmental performance and management. The BOMA BESt certification builds on Go Green and Go Green Plus by harmonizing these separate certifications into one program.

With more than 1300 office buildings and 345 million square feet having achieved Levels 2, 3 and 4, BOMA BESt has more energy and environmental third-party verified data for existing buildings than any other program in North America for the period from 2005 to 2009.

Smardt Chillers:

• Multiple compressor design with up to five compressors provides built – in redundancy
• Built in Variable Frequency Drives allows loads to reduce to 15% of full load operations
• Energy Efficiency – evaporator and condenser design allows the chiller to operate at part load values of >349 kw/ton
• Environmentally friendly HFC-134A refrigerant. Zero ozone depletion.

Boilers:

• Four new boilers with combined light oil and natural gas capabilities.

• Allows for selection of the commodity that will be most efficient for heating facilities

Fire & Life Safety:

• Four new Simplex 4100U two stage fire alarm panel complete with voice communication.
• The Simplex 4100U fire detection and alarm platform is a high-end, state-of-the-art system designed to meet the needs of facility managers, building owners and electrical contractors.
• Building owners can benefit from low-cost compliance testing, including testing of addressable audible and visual appliances that can be conducted without disrupting building operations.
• New Caterpillar 625 KVA standby emergency power generator.
• Low fuel consumption which supports our emissions strategy’s
• New transfer switch complete with maintenance by-pass option.
